Colombia's Congress approves peace deal to end FARC conflict

Colombia's Congress has unanimously approved a peace deal with FARC guerrillas aimed at ending more than a half-century of civil war.

President Juan Manuel Santos said the vote provided "landmark backing" for peace.

Santos, this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner, shepherded the revised deal through Congress after voters shocked the world by rejecting an earlier version in a referendum last month.

The years of violence has left 260,000 people dead and 60,000 missing.
