China has pledged to take action on climate change for the first time.

Speaking at the UN Summit in New York last night, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli said China's emissions, which are the highest in the world, were reaching peak level.

He said China would aim to reduce emissions significantly by 2020.

The UN Climate summit was the largest high-level gathering on global warming in five years.
