Child's death after explosion not caused by gas leak

In the UK - the National Grid has confirmed that an explosion in Oldham yesterday - which killed a two year old boy - was not caused by a leak from its gas distribution pipes.

Police are now investigating whether the blast was caused by some sort of device. They therefore have said that they may be dealing with a murder inquiry.

Two-year-old Jamie Heaton died when a massive explosion tore through his home and that of a neighbour's house yesterday morning.

His mother Michelle survived - after she momentarily stepped into the yard to hang out washing to dry.

Her husband Kenny and two other children were not at home at the time.
