A British man and an Australian who took part in anti-government protests in Thailand last month have been charged with violating an emergency decree.

If found guilty, they could be sentenced to two years behind bars.

Both men denied the charges today, which include inciting violence in street clashes between so-called Red-Shirt protesters and Thai government forces that left almost 90 dead and more than 1,400 injured.

Briton Jeff Savage, 48, is accused of inciting or participating in arson.

Australian Conor Purcell, 30, is accused of inciting violence by making incendiary speeches on the protesters’ main stage in their central Bangkok encampment.
