British student's killer appeals

18/11/2009 - 08:46:20
An Ivory Coast man convicted of killing British student Meredith Kercher launched his appeal today.

Rudy Hermann Guede’s appeals process began as the initial trial implicating the victim’s American roommate, Amanda Knox, continues.

Guede was convicted in a fast-track trial last year of killing 21-year-old Miss Kercher in her bedroom in Perugia, Italy, and he was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

His lawyer Valter Biscotti said outside court today: “Today we’ll prove Rudy Guede’s innocence.”

Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are also being tried for the killing. They deny the charge and a verdict in their trial is expected next month.

Prosecutors say Miss Kercher was killed on November 1 2007 during what began as a sex game.
