A four-year-old boy is in a critical condition in England after being hit by a car which failed to stop.

A four-year-old boy is in a critical condition in England after being hit by a car which failed to stop.

Scotland Yard said the child was hit by a silver Mercedes E Class on Green Lanes in north London on Friday afternoon.

The boy was taken to hospital by London's Air Ambulance.

A spokesman said: "It is not known how many people were inside the vehicle, which drove off towards Winchmore Hill."

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses. Anyone who witnessed the accident or may know the whereabouts of the Mercedes was asked to call Enfield Police via 101. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
