Jerusalem’s central bus station was evacuated shortly after sunset on Monday when police discovered a package they suspected could be a bomb, a local television station reported.

It said a package was found next to a gas canister, prompting police to order the bus station emptied. It was not immediately known if the package was a bomb.

Security is routinely tight at the bus station, which is combined with a shopping mall. All people entering the building must pass through a metal detector, while all packages are X-rayed.
