A bomb has ripped through a busy market area in the main city in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, killing at least two people, police said today.

Senior police official Qazi Ghulam Farooq said the bomb exploded in Mingora, the main city in the north-western Swat district.

The region was a Taliban stronghold until last year when a military offensive brought it back under government control.

However, sporadic violence still occurs.
