A Ukrainian city is thinking of getting pigeons drunk before deporting them.
Officials in the north-eastern city of Sumy are considering plying the birds with wine and then evicting them to ensure that no droppings fall on poet Taras Shevchenko on Sumy's prestigious City Day.
Alexei Movchan, who heads the city branch of the ruling Party of Regions, believes it would be a great idea to feed the pigeons wine-soaked bread before shipping them out, and he claims it is not animal cruelty because deportation of drunk birds is practiced in the Christian Monastery Holy Dormition Pochayiv Lavra.
He is quoted by Obkom.com.ua as saying: "Let’s give them wine-soaked bread and then deport them somewhere where they’ll wake up the next day."
