Drastic diet surgery guarantees cheap meal in town

Diners in a Brazilian town are allowed half-price meals if they've had gastric band surgery.

A new legislation has been passed in Campinas – where between five and eight gastric band procedures are performed every week - that will enable the former fatties who have gone under the knife to get a 50% discount at the town's restaurants.

Councillor Francisco Sellin explained the law was created because diners who have a gastric band eat less so it wasn't fair to make them pay full price for a meal.

He said: "People with a gastric band eat less than half what everyone else eats. If they order a dish from the menu they’ll only manage to eat a fraction of it. They shouldn’t have to pay the same."
