Berlusconi completes community service

Former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi has completed his community service stint on an Alzheimer’s ward as part of a tax fraud sentence.

The three-time former premier made no statements as he left the Sacra Famiglia centre near Milan on Friday, the last of his four-hour weekly stints.

He quickly dived back into politics, meeting with the leader of the anti-immigration Northern League as the splintered centre-right puts out feelers for alliances for regional elections in May.

Berlusconi’s legal battles are not over, however.

Italy’s highest court rules next week on his acquittal on a charge of having paid for sex with an under-age prostitute and using his influence to cover it up.

He is also under investigation in Milan for judicial corruption for allegedly paying off witnesses in that case.
