Belgian detained in Turkey suspected in helping in Paris attacks

A man has been detained in Turkey suspected of scouting targets for the so-called Islamic State, before last week's terror attacks in Paris.

The official said 26-year-old Ahmad Dahmani was detained in a luxury hotel in Antalya along with two other suspects.

It is understood two Syrian men were detained on a main road nearby, on suspicion they were planning to meet him and ensure his safe passage across the border.

A government official has said the three – suspected IS militants – remained in custody following a court appearance.

The official said: “We believe that Dahmani was in contact with the terrorists who perpetrated the Paris attacks. The investigation continues.”

Dahmani had arrived in Turkey from Amsterdam on November 14, the official said. The three were preparing to cross the Turkish-Syrian border.

No further details are being divulged at this time.

There is a confidentiality order on the issue as investigations are ongoing.
