Australia’s navy intercepted a boat carrying dozens of suspected asylum seekers - the fourth such incident in just over one week.
Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor said a patrol vessel intercepted the boat last night about 265 miles (420 kilometres) north of Broome in Western Australia. The boat appeared to be carrying 58 passengers and four crew. Their nationalities were not immediately known.
Those on board were being transported to an Australian immigration detention camp on Christmas Island, 1,600 miles (2,575 kilometres) north-west of the mainland.
