Australia rejects British paedophile
An Australian state has urged Britain to stop a convicted paedophile from returning to Adelaide next week.
The man, who has not been identified, was jailed in Britain for 10 years in 1997 for child sex offences, but was released on parole in late 2002.
The man holds dual Australian and British citizenship and has asked to live in South Australia under an international prisoner transfer agreement.
South Australia’s state government said it has written to London requesting an immediate hold be put on the sex offender’s transfer.
“We don’t want him here,” State Correctional Services Minister Terry Roberts said. “I will be furious if the system has loopholes large enough to allow this sex offender to live here without the consent of either the Australian or the South Australian governments.”
