Amnesty Gowran run scuppered
Charles Byrnes will look for another novice chase for Weapon’s Amnesty after the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Novice Chase at Gowran Park on Saturday was abandoned due to the weather.
Winner of the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, he has had two outings over fences so far this season but finished third at Punchestown before falling at Limerick.
Byrnes said: “He was going to run at Gowran but it’s off and I don’t know where he’ll go instead.”
Before the race was abandoned, Byrnes had warned this might be the last-chance saloon for Weapon’s Amnesty over fences, admitting: “If he doesn’t perform on Saturday he’ll probably go back over hurdles.
“The race hadn’t really started last time. He had a heavy enough fall but he seemed fine after.
“He had a good schooling session last week. He always schools well and he jumped well at Punchestown – he has just always tended to jump to the left.”
