An earthquake measuring 5.7 in magnitude has hit the New Zealand city of Christchurch according to the country's monitoring service.

An earthquake measuring 5.7 in magnitude has hit the New Zealand city of Christchurch according to the country's monitoring service.

There are no reports of damage or anyone being seriously injured - but several buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

The quake struck a week before the fifth anniversary of a deadly tremor in which nearly 200 people died.
