The crew of a ship is being questioned by authorities in Lebanon amid accusations their vessel was carrying arms to rebels in neighbouring Syria.

Lebanon officials say they intercepted three containers of heavy machine guns, artillery shells, rockets, rocket launchers and other explosives destined for rebel forces on the ship which originated in Libya.

Syrian authorities have repeatedly charged that weapons are being smuggled from Lebanon to the rebels.

It comes as violence continues in spite of a peace plan aimed at ending the year long bloodshed in the country.

Government troops killed at least 10 rebel fighters in the Damascus region yesterday, with more than 20 other people also killed.
