Protest organisers condemn SIPTU chief's 'fascist behaviour' remark25/11/2012 - 12:03:31
Organisers of yesterday's anti-austerity rally in Dublin have condemned remarks made by the President of SIPTU about the "fascist behaviour" of a section of the crowd.
SIPTU's Jack O'Connor said a small section of the 10,000 protestors, orchestrated by Sinn Féin and the United Left Alliance, shouted down a speaker from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
A spokesperson for the People Before Profit Alliance said the heckling was "a spontaneous outburst of justified anger at the inaction of union leaders".
But Jack O'Connor is determined to seek an explanation from the Sinn Féin leadership: "I'm going to be asking the general secretary of congress to make contact with the leaders Sinn Féin and the United Left Alliance to ask them to investigate this."
