Time cuts to resource teachers 'an attack on the most vulnerable students'
13/06/2012 - 20:39:49The Teachers Union of Ireland has described a 5% cut to the time Resource Teachers allocate to pupils as 'an attack on the most vulnerable students'.
The National Council for Special Education has said that the decision is a result of high demand - and it comes on the back of a further 10% reduction last year.
Earlier, Ruairi Quinn said resource teachers should 'do more with less'.
But Deputy General Secretary of the TUI, Annette Dolan said that the Government cuts shouldn't target vulnerable students.
"This is an attack on the most marginalised and most vulnerable students, these are the students that need additional support not less support", she said
"And even in the difficult times we are in now we are of the view that these are not the students that we should be taking resources from".
