Wimbledon braced for Murray mania as Wozniacki says she's 'fine being single'

Murray Mania will return to Wimbledon today as Andy Murray continues his bid for a second title at the All England Club.

The Scot faces Slovenian Blaz Rola on Court No.1 at 1pm in his second match of the famous tennis tournament.

Meanwhile, romance was in the air in SW19 yesterday as one of the Grand Slam’s top female stars Caroline Wozniacki talked about her love life.

She said it would take “someone very special” to woo her – but after splitting from golf star Rory McIlroy she might have an admirer in a Spanish tennis heartthrob.

Furthermore, bookmakers have closed betting on Murray winning the tournament and confirming his engagement to girlfriend Kim Sears – speculating that he is already engaged.

Danish athlete Wozniacki said she is “perfectly fine being single”, but when asked about tennis player Feliciano Lopez, she smiled and said: “This is very awkward.”

Lopez was dubbed “Deliciano” by Murray’s mother Judy in 2011, prompting her son to tell her to “stop that nonsense”.

McIlroy announced his relationship with former world number one Wozniacki was over last month because he was not ready for marriage – even though wedding invitations had just been sent out.

At the time, Wozniacki tweeted that it was “a hard time” for her.

At a post-match press conference at Wimbledon, a reporter said to Wozniacki that she seemed to have a great admirer in Lopez.

The giggling tennis star replied: “You noticed?”

When told that Lopez knows her father, Wozniacki laughed, and said: “He’s already making his way in through my dad?”

She added: “Yeah. I noticed he was on the sidelines in Eastbourne. No, he’s a great guy. Playing well. This is very awkward.”

Wozniacki said she was not “that desperate” to try internet dating, adding: “I’m perfectly fine being single at the moment.

“It’s pretty hard to sweep me off my feet. It would have to take someone very special. You know, you never know. I guess when you least expect it, it’s going to come.”

Wozniacki faces Britain’s Naomi Broady in the second round today.

A William Hill spokesman said Murray winning a Wimbledon title and announcing his engagement was on 8/1 but it was so well backed it was “almost as if people thought the engaged part was a done deal”.

He added: “We have closed the betting on Andy Murray officially confirming his engagement during this year’s championship as it has been backed into the same price as him winning – that would suggest to us that he is either already engaged – or has been seen buying the ring!”

Earlier this year Murray was warmly congratulated on Twitter after announcing plans to marry in the summer after Wimbledon.

Murray was responding to a question from a fellow tweeter asking him when he was tying the knot, to which he replied: “We are getting married just after Wimbledon, should be a great day.”

But, after a flurry of congratulatory tweets and press reports, he backtracked, writing “3 things.. I don’t smoke grass, I’m not getting married (yet) and I don’t want to kill Rafael Nadal..”

Meanwhile, tennis fans have been warned not to bring Thermos flasks to Wimbledon “for security reasons”.

The flask ban means people will have to pay out £2.10 each time they want a cup of tea.

A tweet on the tournament’s official Twitter account told people planning a trip to SW19 to check the

list of prohibited items, adding: “Don’t bring a thermos.”

Elsewhere, Judy is rumoured to be Strictly Come Dancing’s next star and the show’s former presenter Sir Bruce Forsyth said she would be “great” on the programme.

Asked if he thought she would be a good contestant, Sir Bruce said on his arrival at the All England Club: “Of course she would.”

Adding: “Judy Murray would be great actually.”

The entertainer, who was joined in the Royal Box by his wife Wilnelia, also said: “We’d like to get Andy on there.”

Judy is thought to be in talks to swap Centre Court for the ballroom and quickstep her way on to the BBC1 show.

The line-up for the next series, to be presented by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, is yet to be announced.

But an insider said: “She’d be a fantastic signing on the show.”

The 54-year-old tennis coach is a big fan of Strictly and has posted comments about the dancers on her Twitter account.

She is in the advanced stage of talks to join the next series, according to the Daily Mail.

Daly was joined in the Royal Box by her husband Vernon Kay, Hollywood star Hugh Jackman and impressionist Alistair McGowan.

Other celebrities at the second day of the Grand Slam included Katherine Jenkins, Phillip Schofield, Holly Willoughby, and Jonathan Ross.

On the court, Heather Watson became the third British player to reach the second round with an impressive win over Ajla Tomljanovic.
