Waterford end season on a high

19/11/2004 - 22:51:36
Waterford United 1 Derry City 0

Blues snatched a stoppage time winner to finish in fifth place, though they scarcely deserved it again a Derry side that just couldn’t score.

Mark Farren missed at least four clear chances for Derry before Blues had skipper for the night Wayne Fitzgerald sent off on 64 minutes for a dreadful challenge on Ruaidhri Higgins.

Blues keeper Dan Connor then had a penalty saved by David Forde on 86 minutes as the game looked like ending scoreless.

But Pat Purcell got on the end of Alan Carey’s cross to glance a header past Forde with 92 minutes played for a last gasp winner.
