Walsh named in Hurling/Shinty squad
Tommy Walsh, an All-Ireland SHC winner with Kilkenny last month, has been included in the Ireland panel for the upcoming Hurling/Shinty International Series against Scotland.
Walsh, the nine-time All-Star defender, is part of a squad that is captained by Westmeath's Eoin Price. Offaly's Shane Dooley and Cork duo Pat Horgan and Shane O'Neill will also take part.
The panel is based largely on players from developing counties, with two trial games having taken place.
John Meyler and Michael Walshe are the managers in charge as Ireland bid to retain the title they won in Inverness twelve months ago. The Under-21 bosses are Gregory O'Kane and Jeffrey Lynskey.
Once again, the Senior Series will be played on a home-and-away basis with the opening game in Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday, October 20.
The second leg takes place in Ennis on Saturday, October 27 and both clashes will be broadcast live on TG4.
This will be preceded by the Under-21 game which is due to be played on Friday, October 19 at 7pm under floodlights in St. Joseph's Doora Barefield, Ennis.
In addition, the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, will officiate at the opening of Fr. McNamara Park, now camogie HQ for Clare, based in Ennis.
The Clare camogie team will play their Scottish counterparts in a Camogie/Shinty International on Saturday, October 27.
