Battling Wales beat Australia for the first time in 18 years with a performance stacked with power, pace and determination at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium tonight.

The Welsh forwards inflicted a fearful battering on the fragile Australian scrum and their backs, inspired by captain Gareth Thomas, attacked with fire and flare before the skipper set up Shane Williams for their all-important second try.

Australia’s defeat, their first in Wales since 1981, will add to the pressure on the under-fire coach Eddie Jones who will face renewed calls for his departure when the Wallabies return home next week..
