United favourites for Zaha capture

Manchester United are favourites to swoop for Crystal Palace’s highly-coveted winger Wilfried Zaha.

United and Arsenal have been heavily linked with the £15m-rated England international in recent weeks but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger denied any interest yesterday.

Wenger said at a press conference: “We were never in for Zaha.

“I don’t know if he will go to Man United. If he goes to Man United, good luck to him.”

There have been reports that United have held discussions with Palace and that further talks are planned, although neither club have commented on the reports.

One player who will not be moving to Manchester United or the Barclays Premier League is Wesley Sneijder, who completed his move from Inter Milan to Galatasaray yesterday.

The Holland international had been linked with United and Liverpool due to a very public falling-out with Inter, who had wanted him to take a pay cut on his existing deal.

But Super Lig leaders Gala beat off competition to land the playmaker’s signature, with Sneijder signing a reported three-and-a-half-year deal.

Newcastle look set to further bolster their squad after completing the signing of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa last night.

The France international signed a five-and-a-half-year deal after sealing his switch from Montpellier for an undisclosed fee.

Fellow defender Massadio Haidara is poised to complete his move in the coming days after his club Nancy revealed they have agreed a fee for the full-back.

Meanwhile, Bordeaux forward Yoan Gouffran last night announced he will become the next French player to arrive on Tyneside today.

He wrote on Twitter last night: “Big thanks to everyone who has supported me through the good times and bad times. I thank the leadership of the club and the staff for helping me grow.

“I need a new challenge and therefore I hope that you respect my choice. I will follow all the results of the Girondins (Bordeaux).

“Tomorrow I will be a new player of Newcastle and I am proud. Thanks to everyone....kisses.”
