As he did on his final home appearance last week, Gary Twigg signed off on the double for Shamrock Rovers as they beat their title successors Sligo Rovers 2-0 at the Showgrounds.

Not that the defeat disappointed the bulk of the bumper home crowd of 6,097 too much as they delighted in the celebrations as Sligo received the championship trophy after the game.

Twigg opened the scoring on ten minutes, scooping home the rebound after his initial effort came back off the crossbar.

Rovers doubled their winning margin 12 minutes into the second half when Twigg punished a poor back pass to fire past Gary Rogers for his 22nd goal of the season.

Drogheda United hammered Bohemians 4-1 at Dalymount Park to confirm second place and put the gloss on a terrific season for Mick Cooke's side which also won the League Cup and qualified for Europe.

Striker Tiarnan Mulvenna was the Drogheda hero with a hat-trick before his night finished on a sour note when he was taken off to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Mulvenna raced through onto Sean Brennan's pass to fire Drogheda in front on 23 minutes. He then doubled the lead on 44 minutes when tapping home Stephen Quigley's low cross.

Evan McMillan got a goal back for Bohemians deep in stoppage time of the first half. But Alan Mc|Nally headed home a Philip Hand cross four minutes into the second half to restore Drogheda's two goal lead.

Mulvenna completed his hat-trick on 68 minutes before he got injured and was taken off on a stretcher two minutes before the end of regular time.

A goal from Christy Fagan gave FAI Cup finalists St. Patrick's Athletic a 1-0 home win over Cork City to rubber-stamp third place and Europa League qualification.

The only goal came on 56 minutes when Fagan pounced to shoot past keeper Mark McNulty.

Cork finishing in sixth place, ahead of Bohemians on goal difference, is sufficient to give them a place in next season's Setanta Sports Cup.

Goals from Micahel Rafter and Barry Conlong gave bottom side Dundalk a much needed boost ahead of next week's promotion/relegation play-off with Waterford United as they beat Bray Wanderers 2-1 at Oriel Park.

Rafter fired Dundalk in front as early as two minutes, finishing from close range from Lorcan Shannon's cross.

A spectacular strike from out on the left wing from Kieran "Marty" Waters had Bray level on 70 minutes.

But Conlon struck nine minutes later, his first goal for the club giving Dundalk their first win in 19 league games.

UCD and Shelbourne ended their season with a 1-1 draw at the UCD Bowl.

Skipper David Cassidy gave Shels the perfect start with the lead goal on two minutes, stealing in to shoot home Paddy Kavanagh's cross from the right.

College levelled against the run of play on 21 minutes when Chris Mulhall's corner was powerfully headed home by defender Hugh Douglas.
