Toon forced to alter pre-season plans

Newcastle will spend the first part of their pre-season campaign in Germany and Hungary after being forced into a late change of plans.

The Magpies had been pencilled in for the Vodacom Challenge tournament in South Africa, but its cancellation last month forced them to hurriedly alter their plans.

Alan Pardew and his players this afternoon jetted off on a nine-day trip which will take in three games.

Newcastle will play German third division side Chemnitzer at the Stadion an der Gellertstrasse tomorrow evening before heading for a training camp in Munich.

They will then face Claudio Ranieri’s Monaco at the Hacker-Pschorr-Arena in Landsberg am Lech on Monday evening.

The Magpies will play the final game of their mini-tour in Hungary on Saturday, July 21, when they will lock horns with Turkish outfit Fenerbahce at the Stadium Sopron.

Pardew’s men are also due to fly to Portugal to take part in the Guadiana Torneo along with Braga and Olympiacos, at the Algarve Stadium, near Faro later in the month.
