Tipperary names same team for refixed game

Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy has named an unchanged team for tomorrow night's refixed Allianz NHL Division 1 clash with defending champions Kilkenny in Thurles (throw-in 8pm).

Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy has named an unchanged team for tomorrow night's refixed Allianz NHL Division 1 clash with defending champions Kilkenny in Thurles (throw-in 8pm).

There could yet be a change at left half-back, however, as Burgess clubman Shane Maher undergoes a fitness test to determine if he has recovered from the dead leg that would have made him a non-starter in Saturday's original game.

The GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee has confirmed that there will be free admission into tomorrow's tie at Semple Stadium.

Saturday's game was postponed by referee Barry Kelly following heavy snow showers in the lead-up to the throw-in. The pitch was deemed unplayable, with both Sheedy and his Kilkenny counterpart Brian Cody agreeing with the decision.

Sheedy said afterwards: "'The surface is too tricky. And looking up in the sky into the lights, it (the snow) looks like a thousand hurling balls coming down on top of you.

"It's just unplayable, which is unfortunate for everyone but in fairness to Barry, he was left with no choice, there was nothing he could do."

Sheedy's starting line-up for tomorrow night includes no league debutants and a total of nine players who started against Kilkenny in last year's All-Ireland SHC final.

Thomas Stapleton and Pa Bourke have both been ruled out due to illness, while James Woodlock (fractured leg) and John O'Neill (torn cruciate knee ligament) will miss the entire league campaign.

TIPPERARY (NHL v Kilkenny) - B Cummins; C O'Brien, P Curran, B Maher; D Fanning, P Maher, S Maher; B Dunne, S McGrath; S Hennessy, S Callanan, H Maloney; E Kelly (capt), M Webster, N McGrath.
