Tipp call on Corbett

Lar Corbett will make his first competitive start of the season for Tipperary when they bid to retain their Munster SHC title against Waterford on Sunday.

Corbett comes in at wing forward as the only change Tipp manager Declan Ryan has made to the side that started against Cork last time out.

The injured Gearoid Ryan makes way for the former Hurler of the Year, who returned to the Premier County panel in May having withdrawn from it earlier in the season.

Corbett was sprung from the bench in last month's 1-22 to 0-24 semi-final win over Cork, setting up Noel McGrath for the only goal of the game.

The Thurles Sarsfields clubman tore Waterford apart in the 2011 Munster final. He ended up with a 4-4 tally as Tipp powered to a facile 7-19 to 0-19 victory.

There has been a trend for high-scoring games between the two counties who are gearing up to meet at Páirc Uí Chaoimh this weekend.

In the last five Munster Championship matches between Tipperary and Waterford, the teams have combined to score 29 goals (Tipperary 20, Waterford 9) - an average of 5.8 goals per match with Tipp averaging four goals per games.

TIPPERARY (SHC v Waterford): Brendan Cummins; Conor O'Brien, Paul Curran (capt), Michael Cahill; Thomas Stapleton, Conor O'Mahony, Padraic Maher; Brendan Maher, Shane McGrath; Pa Bourke, Patrick Maher, Lar Corbett; Brian O'Meara, John O'Brien, Noel McGrath.
