Tiger Woods impresses with brilliant 65 on day two at Hero World Challenge
Tiger Woods was in impressive form on the second day of his comeback as he posted a seven-under-par 65 at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
Returning after two back operations to play competitive golf for the first time since August 2015, the 14-time major winner had had a mixed first round on Thursday, making a superb start before some slip-ups left him with a one-over score of 73.
Things went much more smoothly for Woods on Friday as he carded seven birdies - including four in his last eight holes - in a bogey-free round.
At six under overall, he is joint-ninth alongside Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson, six shots off the lead shared by Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama.
Matt Kuchar and Louis Oosthuizen are tied for third on 10 under, with Bubba Watson a further shot back in fifth in a field reduced from 18 to 17 by Justin Rose pulling out on Friday due to a back issue.
Former world number one Woods - now ranked 898th - said on Sky Sports 4: "It feels good.
"Yesterday I had it going for three holes (he hit three successive birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth) and I lost it and finished over par.
"Today was different - I turned those two par fives (the ninth and the 11th, both of which he bogeyed on Thursday) into under-par and consequently I was able to play the middle part of the round better.
"I kept the momentum going and moved myself up the board."
Woods, 40, had started the day 17th, with only Rose having been below him.
