Terry stretchered off after collision with Suarez

John Terry’s Chelsea comeback ended in heartache after he suffered a nasty-looking knee injury in the first half of today’s Barclays Premier League game against Liverpool.

Terry was enjoying a dream return to action after his domestic four-match ban for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand when he headed the European champions into the lead from a corner after 20 minutes at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

But 15 minutes later, having given the ball away, he made a recovery tackle on Luis Suarez only to see the Liverpool striker land awkwardly on top of his right leg.

That left Terry in agony and he immediately signalled to the bench.

After around five minutes’ treatment on his right knee, the defender was carried off on a stretcher.

The 31-year-old had his head in his hands and was consoled by manager Roberto Di Matteo before disappearing down the tunnel.
