Staunton unconcerned about lack of upcoming friendlies
04/03/2006 - 12:42:11Irish manager Steve Staunton has said he does not want his team to play any extra friendly games this year.
Ireland beat Sweden in their first friendly under Staunton on Wednesday night and are also due to play Chile in another non-competitive tie on May 24th.
Some commentators have expressed concern that the Ireland may not be fully prepared for the beginning of the European Championships qualification campaign in September unless further friendly are arranged.
However, Staunton believes this is not the case.
"I don't want the players hanging around too long after the season finishes," he said. "Basically, I want them to have a good break during the summer then come back fresh and ready."
