When Kevin De Bruyne got injured Irish fans immediately thought of the Euros
Manchester City had mixed fortunes last night. They got through to the Capital One Cup final thanks to some dodgy decision-making, but also had one of their star players stretchered off the park.
Kevin De Bruyne looked to be in serious pain as he was taken from the field and initial conjecture suggested a serious cruciate ligament injury.
Sympathy was in short enough supply, when many thinking the player had been in the middle of a dive when he got injured.
De Bruyne just injured himself diving.....I've seen it all now— Colm Parkinson (@Woolberto) January 27, 2016
De Bruyne got what he deserved, he deliberately throws himself to the ground for a foul and screws his knee! No sympathy here I'm afraid!— Rob Watts (@sucklenuts) January 28, 2016
For many Irish fans the first question was, what does this mean for the European Championships?
Ireland face the highly-rated Belgium team in the group stages of the tournament this summer, and a team without De Bruyne is seen as a much easier opponent than one with him.
Kevin de Bruyne stretchered off with what look's like at least six month's worth of knack. #myexpertmedicalopinion— Barry Glendenning (@bglendenning) January 27, 2016
De Bruyne could be out for the Euros. Just saying, @FAIreland.— Adam (@Adameyang_) January 27, 2016
De Bruyne is only acting the maggot..he just doesn't want to face Super Glen Whelan in the Euros— Rob Kearns (@KearnsRk) January 27, 2016
It is especially galling considering some feel that the midfielder should actually be playing for Ireland, purely going on looks.
Kevin De Bruyne really looks like he should be playing for the Kerry minors. Big Dingle head on him.— Green Scouser (@Green_Scouser) January 23, 2016

Some bad news this morning for folks indulging in a bit of schadenfreude; with reports that the injury may be less serious than first thought.
Kevin de Bruyne's agent says he's confident Kevin will back playing within weeks. He's having a scan this morning.— Quilly (TBI Talks) (@TheBigInterest) January 28, 2016
