But even that winning margin wasn’t enough to stop Louis Van Gaal scowling with displeasure when Javier Hernandez missed a penalty.
Not an expression anyone would like to see on their boss’s face.
Captain and chosen penalty taker Wayne Rooney had already scored a hat-trick when United were awarded a spot kick and graciously handed the ball to his team-mate.
But Hernandez slipped as he connected with the ball, sending it harmlessly wide.
They may have already had the win in the bag but, judging by Van Gaal’s face, Chicharito was still in for a serious talking to after the match.
