WATCH: Ref karate kicked in the back by a player
There was a shocking incident recently in South American football when an unsuspecting referee was assaulted during a match between Unión Perené and Pichanaki.
The Unión Perené goalkeeper was shown a yellow card during a match between the teams in the Copa Peru.
The player took the caution very badly and chased the referee down the field.
The official was oblivious of the footballer bearing down on him and was levelled with a flying kick in the back.
Naturally enough, the goalkeeper was sent off, the referee was able to continue after treatment.
