WATCH: Chapecoense post video tribute: ‘Today we woke up to a new challenge’

Chapecoense have posted a video tribute to the victims of the devastating plane crash that took the lives of most of the club’s squad.

The team were on their way to play in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional, which had been due to take place on Wednesday evening.

The jet carrying the Chapecoense team, along with club officials and journalists, came down late on Monday night, officials from the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Medellin announced. Six of the 77 people on board survived.

In the post that accompanied the video, the club vowed to fight on in memory of those they have lost.

Their message read (in translation): “Today we woke up to a new challenge, because life has given us a different mission.

“Our warriors have become heroes and eternalized their lives in a battle that made the world stop.

“The game today do not have a final whistle, together we are eleven.

"O glorious green that expands

Among the states you are always a splendor

in joys and in our darkest hours

My hurricane you are always a winner”.

On their Facebook page the club also shared a drawing of their players arriving in heaven.

Mourners in Brazil have held a vigil for victims of the plane crash.

Thousands of people, including relatives of the victims, walked from Chapeco city centre on Tuesday evening to Chapecoense's Arena Conda stadium.

They sang songs about the team's players, recited prayers and waved lights in the air using their mobile phones. Brazil has begun three days of national mourning.
