VIDEO: Woman accused of snatching shirt from young boy denies wrongdoing

This female Preston North End fan drew a lot of negative attention after appearing to take a player’s shirt from a young boy, but denies she did anything wrong.

Viewers watching the League One play-off final on Sunday saw a strange scene unfold in the stands.

Jermaine Beckford, subbed off after scoring a hat-trick, threw his jersey to a group of fans. The young supporters argued over the shirt, but eventually one lad claimed it.

Viewers then watched as a nearby woman appeared to swoop in and take the shirt for herself.

Fans were disgusted by what looked like the jersey being cruelly snatched from a young boy, and the outrage went into overdrive when it was suggested on Twitter that the shirt had then been put up for sale on Gumtree.

That ad has been removed and there is no proof the woman herself, named since as Vickie Timbrell, was behind it.

Timbrell, aged 31 has spoken to Manchester Evening News and said she knows the family of the boy and is not at fault in any way.

“People have made me out to be an absolute idiot,” she said. “I will be speaking to the family, I actually know them, they’re friends.”

Timbrell also said: "My side of the story will soon come out”. Sounds like we will be hearing more about the incident in days to come.

Preston North End have said they will make sure the young boy is given another shirt if his family make contact with them.
