Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has said that he feels there’s a “lack of decency in the way in which managers are dealt with” these days, in the wake of David Moyes’ sacking earlier today.

Neville voiced his displeasure with the manner of the Scot’s departure from Old Trafford and said that the club may have to undertake an internal review to reflect on how the situation was dealt with.

Moyes left the club this morning after widespread speculation last night that he was to be relieved of was duties – with all the evidence pointing to a leak from within the club which left Moyes in a very publicly uncomfortable position.

“I don’t like it; it’s not the way in which the club should portray itself but in the modern world it seems to be the way things are dealt with now but I’m a traditionalist and I think it could have been dealt with a whole lot better,” Neville told Sky Sports News.

Neville reiterated the point that he made on 'Monday Night Football' last night that he felt managers should be given time to make the job their own once appointed, and railed against the prevailing culture of dismissing managers prematurely.

“I believe in managers being given time, I think they should be allowed to complete their work. The idea of giving people three and four and six year contracts and getting rid of them after ten months is something that’s foreign to me,” said the Sky pundit.

“However there’s no disguising that the football this season has been poor, the results have been poor. As A fan I haven’t enjoyed watching it [and] I’m sure David Moyes hasn’t enjoyed watching it and I can’t imagine too many Man United fans will have enjoyed watching it either. The performances have got worse and worse.”

He then elaborated on his view that football managers, despite their generous salaries, are often poorly treated nowadays.

“I genuinely believe that there is a lack of decency in the way that football managers are dealt with…you accept it’s a pressurised job and they get well paid for it but I think there’s way of dealing with people and football managers now just get tossed around, chucked about, disregarded, rubbished – decent men; good men just seem to basically just get thrown away and chucked in the bin,” he said.

He also said that the players had to take “massive responsibility” and that ultimately it was their job to win matches.
