Warning: Extremely offensive language quoted in article and heard in footage.

Sexist chanting and abuse at football grounds is in the spotlight as footage emerged of Chelsea club doctor Eva Carneiro being subjected to a barrage of catcalling and offensive chants at a number of Premier League matches.

The Guardian have highlighted footage taken from matches against Manchester United and Arsenal showing the vile abuse Carneiro faces while doing her job.

In the footage taken in Old Trafford, a section of the away fans can be heard singing: “Get your tits out for the lads” while one individual yells, “show us where you piss from, you slag”.

Another clip shows Arsenal fans chanting: “Have you ever had a Gooner up your arse?”.

The footage in both cases is several months old, but the incidents are being highlighted as part of a campaign to address sexism in football.

A spokesperson told The Guardian: “Women in Football are appalled that sexist abuse has been allowed to thrive, unchecked. We are gravely concerned at a lack of action on this issue, and the negative message this sends to women in the football industry”.

Chelsea released a statement on the issue last night.

“The issue of equality is one we take extremely seriously and we abhor discrimination in all its forms, including sexism,” it read.

“Such behaviour is unacceptable and we want it eradicated from the game.”
