Update 12.45am

Hull City have confirmed the signing of Newcastle United's Hatem Ben Arfa on loan until the end of the season.

Update 11.35pm

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle from Wolves on a loan deal until January.

Southampton have confirmed the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld on a season-long loan. The former Ajax man is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Dejan Lovren, who joined Liverpool in the summer.

Update 11.15pm

Valencia have announced they have reached an agreement to sign striker Alvaro Negredo on loan from Manchester City with a clause making the deal permanent at the end of the season.

QPR have announced the signing of Dynamo Kiev midfielder Niko Kranjcar on a season-long loan deal.

Update 11.10pm

Sky are reporting both Manchester United and Arsenal have been granted an extension to the deadline, which raises the question why the deadline is there in the first place.

Update 11pm

THE TRANSFER WINDOW HAS CLOSED!

Deals are still being confirmed however.

Update 10.50pm

With 10 minutes to go, it's all gone worryingly quiet - a calm before the storm perhaps.

Still no word from Manchester United about Radamel Falcao, while there has been little talk of Danny Welbeck’s move to Arsenal in the last hour or so.

It’s all getting a bit lairy for the Sky reporters out and about at the various grounds, with the man at Aston Villa coming under siege. Jim White says in an understating tone: “It’s getting to that time in the night.”

Update 10.40pm

There's barely any time to catch your breath in this last hour. Oussama Assaidi will once again return to the Britannia Stadium as Stoke, like they did last season, have sealed a year-long loan deal for the winger.

The 26-year-old is the forgotten man at Anfield, having signed in 2012 with manager Brendan Rodgers describing Assaidi as “an exciting player...that will excite the crowd”. He was made four appearances for the Reds since that statement.

Credit to Hull, who are working overtime to get their signings over the line. Gaston Ramirez moves to the KC Stadium on a deal until the end of the season as manager Steve Bruce enhances his attacking options.

Update 10.25pm

Celtic have signed Stefan Scepovic on a four-year deal for a fee of around £2.3m from Sporting Gijon.

Update 10.20pm

QPR have announced the signing of midfielder Sandro from Tottenham on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Manchester City have announced defender Micah Richards will join Fiorentina on loan for the remainder of the season.

Update 9.45pm

It's understood Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck but that talks remain ongoing.

Update 9.40pm

James McArthur has signed a three year contract with Crystal Palace after joining from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Update 9.35pm

Some West Ham news as it now seems Marseille winger Morgan Amalfitano is poised to complete his move to Upton Park.

No official word from Big Sam as yet but we understand the Frenchman is poised to become his ninth summer signing.

Update 9.30pm

Some news from the Championship as Norwich reveal they have signed Ignasi Miquel for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

In an odd move, Fulham confirm that Alexander Kacaniklic has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2016, before promptly moving to FC Copenhagen on a season-long loan deal.

Update 9pm

There are several reports doing the rounds that Hull are set to launch a shock move for wantaway Newcastle playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa. Another transfer you probably wouldn't have thought possible this morning.

This time last year, the Frenchman was regarded as one of the best players at St James’ Park but his standing is so low now that he is playing with the reserves and is nowhere near the first team squad, having apparently burnt all his bridges with Toon boss Alan Pardew.

A bona fide match-winner on his day, our man at Hull, Rory Dollard, believes Ben Arfa could be what the Tigers have been crying out for.

No sign of any arrivals on Tyneside so far, however.

Update 8.35pm

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes revealed: “I’m not confident Borini will happen,” he said.

“The player’s expectations and the agents’ expectations – sometimes you have to be realistic, we are not going to be silly about what we do and I’m not optimistic.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have brought in Zeki Fryers on a three year deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

Update 8.10pm

Jim White has taken up his position in the Sky Sports News hotseat. We are entering the home straight now, buckle up - it could be an interesting final few hours.

Meanwhile, the Toronto Sun are reporting that Jermain Defoe will remain at Toronto FC, who reportedly rejected a host of bids for the Englishman.

Update 7.45pm

Ajax have confirmed the sale of Daley Blind to Manchester United.

The Dutch club have said on Twitter that the versatile Holland international, who can play in defence or in midfield, is now no longer their player.

Update 7.25pm

Argentinian international Ricardo Alvarez has completed a season-long loan move to Sunderland from Italian giants Inter Milan.

Alvarez said on the club’s website: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a great opportunity, a great club and I’m looking forward to playing in England and playing my part for Sunderland.”

Update 7.20pm

Hull City have confirmed the signing of Mohamed Diamé from West Ham.

Hull manager Steve Bruce said: “I’m delighted to welcome Mo to the club. His experience, both at international level and in the #BPL will be invaluable as we look to cement our place in the top-flight.”

Update 6.45pm

It's official, Sebastian Coates has become the latest defender to leave Liverpool in search of regular first-team football, with the Reds announcing the 23-year-old has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.

Daniel Agger left Liverpool for Brondy over the weekend with Coates joining him out the door. He will be hoping to impress Uruguayan compatriot and Sunderland boss Gus Poyet having made just 24 appearances for Liverpool since 2011.

Meanwhile, a Leicester official has refused to rule out a dramatic late swoop for Jermain Defoe, who has now seemingly been linked with every Premier League club now.

Update 6.30pm

Well, it appears Arsene Wenger may be listening to the Clock End after all as Sky are reporting that Danny Welbeck is undergoing a medical at Arsenal.

It seems Wenger is getting a bit of a taste for keeping the Gunners supporters guessing, having waited until the last minute to sign Mesut Ozil last year. We have less than five hours to go, though, so the veteran boss will have to act fast to get his man.

Update 6.15pm

It seems like we will never be far away from talking about Radamel Falcao as the Telegraph are reporting that the striker will earn £346,000 a week during his year-long loan deal.

To put it another way, just to bring the Colombian to Old Trafford for the season could end up costing United nearly £25m.

Update 6pm

With Colombian striker Radamel Falcao on his way from Monaco to Manchester United, it has emerged forward Danny Welbeck is expected to leave.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in the England forward, but he is believed prefer a switch to the Gunners who can offer Champions League football.

Arsenal could also let midfielder Francis Coquelin join QPR ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Update 5:50pm

Benjamin Stambouli joins Tottenham from Montpellier just moments after fellow midfielder Lewis Holtby moves on (to Hamburg, on loan). Stambouli's name may bring a collective shrug of the shoulders from even the most ardent of Spurs supporters but he should be a familiar face for French football fans, having played 37 Ligue 1 games last season.

Elsewhere, we understand that Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane are undergoing medicals at Southampton.

According to our man on the south coast, Nick Purewal, it seems Saints boss Ronald Koeman has seen off interest from north-east clubs Newcastle and Sunderland for Belgium defender Alderweireld and Tottenham for Senegal striker Mane.

Update: 5.15pm

Manchester United will take their summer spending to a whopping £150mif the Radamel Falcao deal goes through.

No official word from United yet, with the Colombian still to undergo a medical or agree personal terms, but his signing would be a real statement of intent from United, who seem to be attempting to emulate the “Galactico” era at Real Madrid. Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata, Angel di Maria and possibly now Radamel Falcao is a fearsome forward line and while the likes of Jonny Evans is no Francisco Pavon, United’s backline is less impressive.

Update: 5.02pm

Are you wondering what Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is up to on this most frantic of days? Jamie Redknapp offers an insight on Sky Sports News as he says the Portuguese will "have his feet up with a nice cup of tea". Clearly, the former England international is expecting nothing through the door at Stamford Bridge today.

Not so at Cardiff, though. Phil Blanche has his finger on the pulse in south Wales as he says Lorient central defender Bruno Ecuele Manga is having a medical at City after agreeing terms over a £5million-plus move.

Club captain Mark Hudson could move on when that deal goes through with Championship rivals Fulham favourites for his signature.

Spanish centre-half Juan Cala is staying put, however, tweeting on Monday afternoon: “I will continue being bluebird. I have 2 years more, and I only think that we will be in premier league next year”.

Update: 4.50pm

Just an update on the Chalobah deal as there seems to have been some crossed wires at Turf Moor and Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea saying the 19-year-old would remain at Burnley until the end of the season but the Clarets saying it was only until January 2.

Both sides now appear to be on the same page now and it has been confirmed that the deal will end on January 2.

Elsewhere, the Guardian are reporting that Morgan Amalfitano could be on the way back to the Premier League with West Ham in his cross hairs.

The midfielder was on loan at West Brom last season from Marseille although it appears Big Sam Allardyce is looking to make a permanent move for the Frenchman.

Update: 4.38pm

Rumours circulating in Wales of Welsh midfielder Jack Collison joining Cardiff.

The 25-year-old is a free agent after leaving West Ham in the summer and as a result does not have to sign before the 11pm transfer deadline.

Update: 4.22pm

It's official - Hull have signed Abel Hernandez from Palermo. The Tigers say they paid a club record fee for the Uruguayan.

Our man at Hull, Rory Dollard, believes the fee to be in the region of £9.5million, with the 24-year-old penning a three-year deal.

Update: 4.05pm

It looks like Fabio Borini is on his way out of Anfield - we understand that Liverpool have accepted an initial £10m bid for the striker from QPR.

Borini has struggled to settle in Merseyside and was linked with a permanent move to Sunderland, where he spent last season on loan.

However, that move fell through with Borini rumoured to be unwilling to move to the Stadium of Light and now it seems like Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has taken advantage of that to snap up a replacement for the recently-departed Loic Remy.

Update: 3.55pm

Another DONE DEAL for Burnley, and another impressive piece of business.

The Clarets have snapped up the highly-rated Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah on loan, updating that stat from earlier to Chelsea having 22 players out at other clubs.

Sky's man outside Palace's training ground says that James McArthur has been sitting in his car in the car park for 90 minutes. What could he be doing? Listening to a couple of chapters of Neil Warnock's audiobook 'The Gaffer', calling his estate agent or maybe just hiding? Palace fans will hope he comes out before 11pm.

Meanwhile, Tours have confirmed that tattooed teardrop Andy Delort has gone to Wigan and ended their statement with Churchill’s famous quote which goes: “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

We don’t know what they are talking about.

Update: 3.30pm

We're having a big 'LOL' at the Southampton fan who has tweeted the club asking for a refund after he had TAIDER 17 printed on the back of his shirt, only for the player to leave before he'd had a chance to wear it!

Southampton have been good sports, though, and told him to take it back and they will replace it for them. Love a happy ending.

Update: 3.20pm

It looks like Hull have got the Abel Hernandez deal over the line. The 24-year-old Uruguay striker has put a picture of himself at the club's training ground on his official Facebook page and said he has signed a four-year deal.

That fills the gap created by Shane Long. I wonder if Steve Bruce mentioned to him that they’d already been knocked out of Europe?

Update: 3.10pm

Tom Allnutt tells us Swansea have had no approaches for Wilfried Bony, the Ivorian striker who has been linked with several clubs (Arsenal klaxon).

Reports abound too that a QPR move for Lassana Diarra has fallen through. A real blow for Harry’s plan to bring the old gang back together.

Update: 2.55pm

The first signs of life at Newcastle today, with defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa set to tie up a season-long loan to Roma.

“I am happy, forza Roma,” Yanga-Mbiwa was reported as saying by the Italian press. Short and sweet.

A little bit more on Taider leaving Saints now, with the club saying he: “Failed to live up to the high levels of commitment expected of Southampton players”. Make your own ’didn’t he want to sign for Liverpool as well?’ jokes.

Update: 2.35pm

Saphir Taider has left Southampton after a short-lived loan spell of three weeks while in the Championship Wigan have signed the highly-rated midfielder Adam Forshaw from Brenford, manager Uwe Rosler's old club.

More rumours about Palace, too, with the Guardian saying Neil Warnock is having a look at Kevin Doyle. Remember when Arsenal were linked with him?

Another man Arsene Wenger has missed out on is American Bart Simpson. The spiky-haired all-rounder has been unveiled by AVB’s Zenit St Petersberg. We have no idea. He’s sure to get a few decisions from homer refs, though. Sorry about that.

Update: 2.05pm

There's an out at Sunderland with Modibo Diakite released, while Phil Blanche in Wales thinks there might be something in Kyle Naughton leaving Spurs for Swansea.

Down in the Championship, the Yorkshire Evening Post say Fulham are in for Leeds’ Matt Smith. He signed a new three-year deal a fortnight ago but could now be off to London for a reunion with former strike partner Ross McCormack.

Reports of Southampton being in for Diego Capel are, to quote PA's Simon Peach, "wide of the mark". He does think, though, that there is a deal to be done for Sadio Mane.

He’s a 22-year-old Salzburg winger who has been reportedly catching the eye of Spurs. Simon covers both clubs, so we will stay across that.

A few quotes from Chelsea keeper Petr Cech now. He lost his place as number one - a spot he's had for a decade - when Jose Mourinho opted for Thibaut Courtois to be his first choice. That's put Cech's future under the microscope.

“The offer would have to be right for everyone. I do not exclude anything (or) know the answer” he has said of any possible move.

Still no sign of Harry Redknapp either. At 2pm! We’ve tried his mobile, his landline, his wife, his son. Where is he? In 2009 if reports are to be believed as he is being linked with moves for plenty of his old Spurs players. Nothing doing yet, though.

Update: 1.25pm

A DONE DEAL. Javier Hernandez has completed his loan move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, with an option to buy after a year. The cruel amongst us could suggest he's swapping one bench for another. His nickname of course, is the Little Pea or Chicharito, so credit to the Sun for their headline this morning of 'Pea Off'.

The 26-year-old has impressive stats of 59 goals in 154 appearances for United.

Update: 12.59pm

There have been suggestions that might be that at Arsenal with some surprise that they haven't gone in for Defoe. Wenger has given his critics a stick to beat him with if he decides not to bother with a striker.

There’s also nothing doing at West Ham at the moment, although there is the Mo Diame situation to keep an eye on.

Update: 12.44pm

There's a low-key departure in the north west with Shane Duffy leaving Everton to join Blackburn on a three-year deal. The 22-year-old has made just 10 appearances for the club.

We’ve also had a sighting of Harry, although not first hand. Rio Ferdinand has just tweeted: “I’ve just seen the boss....looks bang in negotiation mode”. Is he ever in any other sort of mode?

Update: 12.19pm

There's been a little lull in activity over the last 30 minutes or so. All the footballers must have decamped to Nando's for lunch.

There are reports that Hamburg hope to get a deal done for Spurs’ Lewis Holtby in the next “two to three hours”.

As things stand, we are waiting for Falcao to land in Manchester and go through his details with United while there’s still no sign of Harry Redknapp! It’s starting to get worrying now. Another hour and we’ll call the police.

Update: 11.56am

CONFIRMED: Shane Duffy has joined Blackburn Rovers on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

PA's resident Norwich and Arsenal man Jim van Wijk says there's talk of Miguel Ignasi making a #1.5m switch to Carrow Road. He's a 21-year-old Spanish defender.

Arsenal are getting plenty of stick on Twitter for their apparent lack of action in getting a striker. Even other sports are getting involved, with Warwickshire cricketer Rikkie Clarke saying: “Man Utd have replaced Van Persie before Arsenal have”. Worth adding that the mischievous Clarke is a Spurs fan!

Update: 11.38am

There's a picture doing the rounds on Twitter at the moment - circulated by Gooner Talk - of Arsene Wenger at the airport ready for fly to Rome for a charity match tonight. Read into that what you will.

Also, activity at Liverpool’s training ground as Luis Suarez turns up! He’s not had a change of heart, though, he’s just come to clean out his locker. Steven Gerrard has posted a picture of the pair together for one last time. I’m welling up here.

And more news from Phil Blanche in Wales whose phone is running hot. He says that Danny Gabbidon is set for a return to Cardiff, nine years after he left the club for West Ham. he was released by Palace in the summer but is now set to head back as a player/coach.

They say it’s never dull in Hull, with Rory Dollard updating that the club are “progressing with their incomings”. There’s a DONE DEAL out too as George Boyd goes to Burnley on a three-year deal.

George Boyd

A quick stat sent in by PA’s Chelsea man Matt McGeehan too, who says the club have a staggering 21 (twenty-one) players out on loan.

Update: 11.25am

Sunderland Echo: Liverpool's Sebastian Coates is expected at the Academy of Light this afternoon to complete a season-long loan move to Sunderland.

Update: 11.17am

We are bordering on having more managers going than signings so far today as Colchester part company with Joe Dunne.

And a first tongue-in-cheek sighting of the day, as Goole AFC manager Curtis Woodhouse says he’s seen Tom Cleverley shopping for football boots in the town but has “zero interest in signing him”. Are you going to argue with an ex-boxer?

Update: 11.02am

In amongst the transfers we've got a managerial departure with Graham Kavanagh gone from Carlisle.

The Guardian are also reporting a deal which could form part of a deadline day drinking game – Jack Butland on loan to a Championship club. DRINK! No destination yet, though.

Various sources saying Hull are in for West Ham’s Mo Diame and Nick Mashiter is back to say Villa are trying for Cleverley but have reached a “large impasse” over his wages.

Update: 10.52am

It's nearly 11 and we haven't seen Harry Redknapp yet. Where is he? Did Sandra forget to set the alarm?

Sky Sports News have footage of Micah Richards landing in Florence ahead of a move to La Viola too.

And a bit of an update on Falcao, the fee for the loan is £6m and not the originally-reported £12m. It’s 50 per cent off at Monaco today folks.

Radamel Falcao

Update: 10.35am

The signing of Falcao - a £12m fee for a year has been touted - means outgoings and there's a picture going around of Javier Hernandez at Real Madrid ahead of his medical.

More from Simon Peach again as he confirms Spurs would like Welbeck but they want a loan deal. Would a permanent move from Arsenal swing it?

Another DONE DEAL is Karim El Ahmadi out of Aston Villa and back to Feyenoord.

That comes from PA’s man in the Midlands Nick Mashiter who also understands Palace have agreed a club-record fee for Wigan’s James McArthur.

And Phil Blanche in Wales back to say Swansea are close to signing Gambian striker Modou Barrow for £1.5m. He will join from Ostersunds FK and go into the development squad.

Update: 10.25am

A few numbers of Falcao to whet the appetite of Manchester United fans now.

Twenty-eight years old, he has scored a staggering 200 goals in 305 career appearances. Considering the current state of United’s defence, it’s a signing that brings back Fat Les’ England song lyric ’we’re gonna score one more than you’.

As Paul Hirst says on Twitter: “MUFC were indicating at the weekend that Blind would be the last one in. Falcao offer was clearly too good to turn down.”

More info from PA’s reporters, with London and South Coast man Simon Peach across everything at Southampton.

He says that Ronald Koeman has cooled on Andros Townsend but still wants a winger, and that Toby Alderweireld – he of Atletico Madrid – is in talks with the Saints.

And a little more on the Championship manager hunt, Oscar Garcia is now understood to be Leeds’ number one choice to replace David Hockaday. It’s all go.

Update: 10.20am

Manchester United have signed Falcao on loan, subject to a medical and personal terms. Who woke up today expecting to hear that?

We also have a first DONE DEAL of the day with Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel signing for AC Milan. He’s never really got going at Chelsea and has signed a year-long loan deal. He has an instant reunion with Fernando Torres and pats him on the head in his quotes by saying of the striker: “He’s a good lad”.

Update: 10.15am

We understand Manchester United have agreed a loan deal to sign Colombia striker Radamel Falcao from Monaco subject to a medical.

Update: 10am

The Falcao story will be the big one today it looks. Spanish paper AS says he signed for Manchester United overnight, while it's being said on TalkSPORT now that the player is in a private jet from Nice to Manchester in order to sign for City. One for those who have plane tracker apps on their phone, perhaps?

Manchester United did a deal for Daley Blind on Saturday although the move has yet to be rubber-stamped. However, Juan Mata has blogged welcoming him to the club so an announcement seems to be pretty close.

Update: 9.50am

There are a couple of rumours doing the rounds on Twitter about Arsenal wanting Ron Vlaar from Villa, but Paul Lambert said yesterday there was ``no chance'' of him going anywhere.

Nick Powell is also said to be interesting Leicester (various), so there might be a tussle for him later on, while PA’s Hull man Rory Dollard thinks a move for Andre Ayew might be unlikely once they have tied up the loose ends on a switch for Abel Hernandez from Palermo. He’s been by the Humber acquainting himself with white phone boxes (Hernandez, not Rory) for a couple of days and it looks close.

A couple more lower on the radar include Norwich moving for Swindon’s Louis Thompson and Fulham having a look at Leeds’ Matt Smith (various). He signed a new three-year deal just a fortnight ago but hey, this is football. French striker Andy Delort – linked with every Championship club over the summer - seems to have settled on Wigan. When you see pictures of him, don’t worry, he’s not sad about it, he just has a tear tattooed next to his eye (that is not a joke).

Agent Phil Smith is on TalkSPORT advertising well-travelled striker Andy Johnson. ``He's available, you have someone here who can score goals for fun. He's finished at QPR and he will go somewhere.''

Who was that fella who used to do the breakfast show on talkSPORT? Neil someone. He likes a striker.

Smith also says Fabio Borini “clearly doesn’t want to go to Sunderland and aspires to play for a bigger club”. Bad news for Sunderland fans if true, although they probably resigned themselves to that not happening a little while ago.

Update: 9.30am

More from the Guardian and bringing that Micah Richards story back up, they are saying the Man City defender is heading to Fiorentina on loan with a view to a permanent move.

TalkSPORT’s man on the Mersey is now giving a nod to reports of Liverpool being in for Victor Valdes. The keeper is without a club, unbelievably, after leaving Barcelona and it would perhaps make sense when you think about it. With the Champions League coming and Pepe Reina having gone, a top-class rival for Simon Mignolet would be advisable, although Valdes is currently sidelined after a serious injury.

And not content with signing 13 players this window, sources close to Leeds owner Massimo Cellino say he is in for Brian Montenegro, Nick Powell and Danny Graham (remember him?).

Update: 9.10am

Here's a bit of intel from Wales where Swansea are being linked with Ghana winger Andre Ayew, but that he's also said to be interesting Villa, Hull and QPR (of course).

Garry Monk has said he wants two more players, a winger and a full-back. That would be one tick.

There is work being done at Cardiff too, with the club set to complete the signing of centre-half Bruno Ecuele Manga from Lorient for a fee in the region of £5m. That may see Mark Hudson leave the club, possibly to either Fulham or Leeds.

Movement at Palace too by the looks of it as Sky Sports News have footage of Spurs defender Zeki Fryers arriving at their training ground.

Update: 8.52am

The Guardian are saying that there is a bit of interest from both Arsenal and Spurs in Manchester City’s Matija Nastasic. The Serbia defender was impressive for City last season but looks like being a casualty of their homegrown/FFP situation. Both sides could do with an extra centre-half and that could be one to watch.

Update 8.43am

Reporters and fax machines aren't the only ones working hard today, the bookies are also on the coffee and red bull (not together). Just having a quick scan of some of the markets to see if there are any indicators, here's what we've found:

Ryan Shawcross is odds on to swap Stoke for Everton, Micah Richards is off to Fiorentina and Warnock might have competition for Paddy Kenny as AFC Halifax are 50/1 to sign their hometown hero!

One interesting one, which will probably come to nothing, is Spurs being 6/1 second favourites with some to sign Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo. If you’ve not heard of him, the Italian press call him the ’Bearded Colback’.
