Tevez father freed by kidnappers

The father of the former Manchester United and Manchester City player Carlos Tevez has been freed after being kidnapped in Argentina.

Lawyer Gustavo Galasso said that Segundo Tevez was in “good shape” after being snatched by unknown assailants when his vehicle was intercepted outside Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires

Argentine TV station C5N said Tevez was set free after a payment of €400,000 US dollars (€298,293), however neirther Mr Galasso or police would confirm this.

Italian club Juventus has said it gave the footballer permission to travel to Argentina for “family reasons,” but reports in Italy said Tevez was not returning to Argentina.

Tevez played for Argentina in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. He was not picked this time despite being one of the Italian league’s top players.

Germany defeated Argentina 1-0 in this month’s World Cup final.
