Joe Cole and Carlos Sanchez are set to make their competitive Aston Villa debuts against Newcastle at Villa Park on Saturday.
Cole missed last week’s opening-day 1-0 win at Stoke as he recovered from a thigh injury while Sanchez had only just signed from Elche. But the Colombia international has trained this week and boss Paul Lambert has confirmed he is available for the Barclays Premier League clash with the Magpies.
Jores Okore is also in contention after playing in an Under-21s game against Stoke on Monday. The defender suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury last September after just four appearances following his £4m arrival from FC Nordsjaelland. Strikers Christian Benteke (Achilles) and Libor Kozak (broken leg) remain sidelined.

Summer signing Siem de Jong could be handed a Barclays Premier League debut as Newcastle head for Aston Villa on Saturday.
Former Ajax midfielder De Jong is available after missing the opener against Manchester City with the foot injury he suffered in pre-season, and will be joined in the squad by loan striker Facundo Ferreyra for the first time.
Midfielder Cheick Tiote will sit out once again with a hamstring problem, while central defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa picked up a knock in training last week and full-back Davide Santon is unlikely to return to the squad until November after undergoing knee surgery during the closed season.

Chelsea have no fresh injury problems ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League match against Leicester at Stamford Bridge.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could again be selected ahead of veteran Petr Cech.
Striker Didier Drogba shrugged of an ankle problem to make a late substitute appearance in the 3-1 win at Burnley on Monday night, and is in line to make his competitive return to the Bridge in Chelsea colours having rejoined the club in the summer.

Summer signing Matthew Upson (foot) is still a couple of weeks short of a return.

Scott Dann has an “outside chance” of facing West Ham in Crystal Palace’s Barclays Premier League clash at Selhurst Park on Saturday, according to Keith Millen.
Palace’s caretaker manager will put Dann through a late fitness test as the central defender battles to beat a hip strain in time for the Hammers’ visit.
Adrian Mariappa trained on Thursday following a rib complaint, while Jonny Williams and Jerome Thomas are also fit to return.

Central defender Joleon Lescott is unlikely to make his West Brom debut at Southampton despite returning to training after a knee injury.
Cristian Gamboa will not be considered to face the Saints either with Albion boss Alan Irvine eager to give the right-back more time to settle after his £2m move from Rosenborg.
James Morrison (knee) remains sidelined but Gareth McAuley could figure after a calf problem and record signing Brown Ideye is available for the Barclays Premier League match.

Swansea are waiting on international clearance for Argentine defender Federico Fernandez to feature against Burnley on Saturday.
Fernandez completed his £8m switch from Italian club Napoli on Wednesday but Swansea are still waiting for the paperwork for the 25-year-old to make his debut.
Even if Fernandez is cleared to play he may still not start as manager Garry Monk could opt to name the same side which shocked Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season. Swansea are still without Leon Britton, Marvin Emnes and Jay Fulton, all with knee injuries.

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson could be back in contention for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League visit of Arsenal after 10 months on the sidelines.
The Irishman, who suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage last October, has steadily built his fitness and is thought to be nearing a return.
Right-back Seamus Coleman (hamstring) is also fit after appearing as a late substitute at Leicester last week but striker Arouna Kone (knee) and midfielder Bryan Oviedo (leg) are not yet ready and midfielder Ross Barkley (knee) faces a lengthy lay-off.

Hull manager Steve Bruce is expected to make wholesale changes when his side host Stoke on Sunday.
The Tigers side beaten by Lokeren in Thursday’s Europa League play-off first leg included just two of the starting XI which beat QPR on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League season and Bruce will shuffle his pack again.
Yannick Sagbo serves the second and final game of a domestic ban, while Robert Snodgrass (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Christian Eriksen, Younes Kaboul, Aaron Lennon and Etienne Capoue will return after being rested for Thursday’s energy-sapping Europa League clash at AEL Limassol. Tom Carroll travelled to Cyprus but has since joined Swansea on a season-long loan.

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet will welcome defenders Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini back into his squad for Sunday’s Barclays Premier League visit of Manchester United.
Jones missed the 2-2 draw with former club West Brom last weekend because of a troublesome hamstring, while Vergini is understood to have sat out because of an administrative problem – but both will be available this weekend.
That means Poyet’s only significant absentee will be Italian midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini, who continues his recovery from a groin injury.

Midfielders Michael Carrick is out, as is utility man Jesse Lingard, who has a knee injury, but Antonio Valencia has recovered from the leg problem that kept him out of the defeat to Swansea.

The £32m defender only joined up with the club last week and is still short of match-fitness but defender Pablo Zabaleta could be back in line to start and loan midfielder Frank Lampard is available.
Striker Sergio Aguero, who came off the bench to score at Newcastle last week, may not be ready to play 90 minutes while fellow forward Alvaro Negredo (foot) remains out long term.
