Slaven Bilic was scathing of his players after their big loss to Arsenal

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic pulled no punches in his assessment of his team after their 5-1 defeat to Arsenal this evening.

The 48-year-old blamed a lack of intensity in the Hammers' performance and said it is the same case in training.

"We're not good enough and it's a big disappointment," Bilic said. "I feel sorry for the fans and the club.

"We played some good games in this season and we had some good moments (against Arsenal) as well but I have to be honest and say we don't have the intensity.

"First of all the intensity from dedication comes also the quality. We don't have it enough even in training - that's why we have it so occasionally in games.

"In my opinion that's the main reason why we can't do it for 90 minutes."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hailed the "exceptional" Alexis Sanchez after his 14-minute second-half hat-trick.

The Chilean striker made it five goals in his last two appearances to keep Wenger's side hot on the tail of Premier League leaders Chelsea in second spot.

Sanchez also set up Mesut Ozil for the opening goal, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also finding the net.

"For me it took him a while to get mentally into the game, but he's a fighter, he's a winner," Wenger said of Sanchez.

"He always can give you something special. He has a short backlift, he's quick and is quick to close down and he's been exceptional."

Wenger was satisfied with the result, even though the Gunners squandered several scoring opportunities.

"I am pleased with the result," he added on BT Sport 1, "You have it in your mind that you deserve to be punished if you don't take your chances. Sometimes you get away with it like today."
