Shamrock Rovers held in Europa League

Shamrock Rovers played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier at Progres Niederkorn in Luxembourg.

The Hoops had a number of chances in the first half and went closest when an effort from Michael Drennan shaved the outside of the post.

The hosts came back into the game after the break and also hit the woodwork through Giuseppe Rossini while Craig Hyland made two fine saves late on.

Meanwhile Irish Premiership winners Crusaders were forced to settle for a goalless draw in a compelling Champions League clash against Estonian side Levadia at Seaview.

The Belfast side had numerous chances to snatch the advantage in the first leg of the first qualifying round tie but were unable to find a way past visiting goalkeeper Priit Pikker.

Pikker touched a shot from Andew Mitchell onto the bar and also saved from Billy Joe Burns and Michael Carvill while Jordan Forsythe and Paul Heatley also went close.

At the other end, Ingemar Teever and Omar Elhussieny had shots blocked early on. The tie will be settled when the sides meet again next week.
