Richie Towell’s move to English Championship confirmed

As expected, the Airtricity League star has made a move to Championship side Brighton.

Richie Towell confirmed today that he is heading across the water to try and make an impact on the Championship.

The 24-year-old midfielder has agreed a deal to keep him at the English club until 2018 but will have to wait for the transfer window to open before he can complete the signing and become eligible to play.

Brighton are currently two points clear at the top of the Championship table and manager Chris Hughton expects Towell to add an extra dimension to their play.

"Richie's had a wonderful season in Ireland and scored a lot of goals for the champions Dundalk from midfield, and that really caught our eye,” Hughton said on the club website .

"He is something different to the number of very good midfield options we already have here at the club, and I am really looking forward to having him as part of our squad in the New Year. “

The Dubliner is also aware that an impressive second half of the season with the Seagulls could help him catch Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill’s eye ahead of next summer’s European Championships.
