Republic of Ireland remain unbeaten after Women's World Cup qualifier with Netherlands

Republic of Ireland claimed an impressive point after holding European champions Holland to a goalless draw in Nijmegen in their World Cup qualifier today.

Holland put the Republic under huge pressure but their defence was rock solid as they remained unbeaten in Group 3 after wins against Northern Ireland and Slovakia.

The match kicked off in Stadion de Goffert in Nijmegen at 7pm Irish time.

The hosts were the heavy favourites to claim victory and rained down shots in the second half, but with 10 behind the ball Ireland held out, and even survived a penalty shout for handball late in the match.

The result left Colin Bell's side level on points with Holland, who are top thanks to a better goal difference, and one clear of Norway in third.

The FAI thanked tens of thousands of viewers who watched the match, describing the team as "absolute heroes".
