George Burley is poised to be named as the new Scotland boss after reports claimed the Scottish Football Association board have backed him for the job.
The Southampton manager was the preferred candidate of the SFA’s four-man interview panel and according to Sky Sports News their decision was ratified by the board this morning.
Although the SFA had indicated there would be no appointment today, that could change if the process of securing Burley’s release from his Southampton contract proves straightforward.
Burley, 51, has also had spells as manager of Ayr, Colchester, Ipswich, Hearts and Derby and is set to succeed Alex McLeish who resigned as Scotland boss in November.
