Paul Pogba: We want to kickstart League campaign with win against Spurs

Paul Pogba is desperate for Manchester United to end their frustrating league run when Tottenham visit this weekend.

Jose Mourinho's first campaign has been a topsy-turvy one to date, with progress to the EFL Cup semi-finals and Europa League knockout stages tempered by disappointing Premier League results.

United have entertained far more than under Louis van Gaal, but a lack of cutting edge means they are 13 points off the top after just 14 matches.

A nine-point gap to fourth has already opened up after four successive league draws at Old Trafford - a run Pogba is determined to change when fifth-placed Spurs arrive this Sunday.

"We know how hard it is to play against Tottenham," the midfielder said.

"We are playing at home, we didn't win for four games at home and we had four draws.

"We just want to win this game and get to the top of the league."

United approach the match buoyed by the 2-0 win against Zorya Luhansk that secured safe passage to the Europa League last 32.

However, the quick turnaround and long journey back from Ukraine is hardly the ideal preparation ahead of the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino's men.

"When you are playing in those competitions, when you are playing every three days, you have the team to change, we have the team to be ready," Pogba said.

"We have to be ready for those games so we know we have to be ready for this.

"When we prepare like the pre-season, it is to play in those games every three days and be fit for those games."

Pogba is likely to start again at the weekend and Henrikh Mkhitaryan has bolstered his chances with another fine display.

Initial struggles after his summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund appear to be behind the Armenian, who scored a superb solo goal that Zlatan Ibrahimovic added to late on to secure a 2-0 win in Odessa.

"Well, we know him," Pogba told MUTV. "We train with him every day.

"We know how good he is. You just have to be confident and now he's playing more, he has more games on his legs.

"He is just getting going, he is just going that way and that's what we want.

"We need him in the team like we need everyone in the team, but the performance of Micki tonight is just unbelievable. It just helped the team - that's what we want."
