No fairytale for Macclesfield as Wigan safely through

Macclesfield 0 Wigan 1

Wigan booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round thanks to Jordi Gomez’s early penalty which was enough to sink non-league Macclesfield at Moss Rose.

Gomez beat new Macclesfield keeper Joe Anyon from the spot in the seventh minute after pacy Latics winger Callum McManaman was brought down by replacement defender Thierry Audel.

Macclesfield had a penalty shout turned down in each half by referee Roger East in a battling performance which saw them unable to convert any of their chances against the Barclays Premier League side ranked 82 places above them.
