Manchester City are to appoint a new manager following the decision to sack Roberto Mancini - but who is likely to succeed him at the Etihad Stadium?

MANUEL PELLEGRINI

The overwhelming and odds-on favourite to succeed Mancini.

The Chilean had been rumoured to be a potential City target several times before the latest speculation began at the weekend.

The 59-year-old has denied there is a deal in place but he is leaving Malaga at the end of the season and appears to fit the profile the club want.

JOSE MOURINHO

Mancini’s departure could give City the chance to hijack what is thought to be Mourinho’s return to Chelsea from Real Madrid.

But even though the Portuguese has been touted as a possible City candidate in the past, it is thought his penchant for inflammatory comments is off-putting.

JURGEN KLOPP

The Borussia Dortmund coach has made a big impression in the past three seasons and is likely to receive offers from around Europe.

He has stated his commitment to the German club but the loss of key players from his impressive squad to rivals could also push him towards the exit.

RAFAEL BENITEZ

An experienced option who knows the Premier League well and who will be available as his deal as Chelsea interim manager comes to an end at the end of the season.

City may also have the ideal opportunity to talk to him as they meet Chelsea in two friendlies in the United States next week.

CARLO ANCELOTTI

With rumours circling about his future at Paris Saint-Germain, Ancelotti could be another former Chelsea manager on the move this summer.

He would offer vast experience and has considerable success under his belt.

BRENDAN RODGERS

The Liverpool manager was only briefly linked with City recently but it was enough to irritate Mancini, who voluntarily mentioned Rodgers in one of his press conferences.

It would seem unlikely however with Rodgers so early into his Anfield project.
