Liverpool's new Main Stand begins to take shape

Liverpool's redeveloped Main Stand is starting to take shape, with the first red seats arriving for installation in the newly built top section.

Work is in its 74th week of an initial 88-week schedule ahead of primary handover to the club at the start of next season.

The new top levels, which have been constructed behind the existing Main Stand with the plan to join the two together after Liverpool's final home game of the season against Chelsea next Wednesday, have taken delivery of their first spectator seats, as the pre-cast concrete structure begins to look like a proper stand.

There is no view of the pitch from the top levels yet, however, as the existing old roof obscures the 40-metre view to the playing surface.

That will be removed, along with the old seats from pitch-side in a five-week round-the-clock operation to ensure the ground is ready for Premier League football in August.

The new stand is so high, escalators have been installed on every level to ensure fans can get to their seats with the maximum ease and comfort.

Although the spectator seating is expected to be finished for the start of the new campaign, finishing the back-office departments will take longer.

As a result, both home and away teams will have temporary dressing rooms housed in the new underground car park of the stadium for a number of months.
